We drove 17 hours for a 6 hour meeting... I kid you not.

Just sit right back and you'll hear tell a tale, a tale of a fateful trip...

On Saturday I drove up north of Grand Marais with my sister, neice and Spencer. Yes - Saturday when it was so nasty that I skated on an inch of ice out to my mailbox. Saturday when they "advise no unnecessary travel throughout Morrison County" and canceled all area activities. (Brad drove up the night before with NO weather-related issues). So a trip that normally takes 5 1/2 hours took 8. Yikes... but we made it safe and sound.

Then it snowed. And snowed. And snowed a little more. Instead of watching the Vikings game, driving through all the snow and rain and getting back after midnight we decided to wait it out...
so this was our lovely view on the hour-plus ride down the mostly-unplowed Gunflint Trail on Monday morning. Although the undercarriage scraped the fresh snow our car made it but our windshield wiper didn't. It decided to break and flip upside down everytime we turned the wipers on. So we were left with no choice but to take it off, wrap a stretchy glove around the bar metal end and hope the wind didn't knock it back and bust the windshield.
It didn't. And we made it safely to Grand Marais. It was beautiful too. The snow was sitting inches thick on the trees, signs, even the powerlines.
And surprisingly the kids didn't drive us too bonkers on the way back. (although we came to an agreement that for any trip that's over 3 hours WE deserve a DVD player for the KIDS to use) With a 90 minute stop in Duluth it still took us nearly 9 hours to get home. Welcome back winter!!
